2- Residential carpets should be professionally cleaned every twelve to eighteen months according to The Carpet and Rug Institute. However, homes with higher foot traffic, pets, or children may benefit from cleaning every six to twelve months. Homes with allergy or asthma sufferers might require cleaning every four to six months.
